Good but could exist great

In many ways, Pages is a joy to use, but it lacks merely a few small features to make it really great. Ironically, nearly of the missing features would find very broad use in academia and I had hoped today's result would be the perfect time to (re-)introduce them: (1) Line numbering--This is required past vitually all journals to which academics submit manuscripts, not to mention by lawyers and other groups, merely Pages nonetheless cannot sequentially number lines throughout a documents. It is irritating to have to move the manuscript to MS Word but to number the stupid lines! (2) Non-face-to-face selection--this was present in the "quondam" Pages but has not appeared since. It is essential in technical writing and so you tin set all your subscripts or super scripts at once (or efficiently apply italics, etc.). (three) Interoperability with other apps--Compatability with EndNote and MathType was hardwired into pages a few versions ago, but lack of open format and scripting access prevent much more than capable, and more than frequently updated apps, similar Bookends from existence almost as useful as they could exist (and as they were in the "old" Pages). At that place are other minor issues but these are the big three, at least for university-level academics. (And, yes, I have submitted these feedback requests multiple times!)

Easier to employ than Discussion, only way less capable

Luckily, it's free if yous go for an Office 365 account with one TB of cloud storage, which is a better buy than Apple will ever offering. But I never employ Word for work I tin do in Pages.

All of the digital giants seem to pride themselves on giving yous less and worse than they easily could, and Pages is no exception. If Open Office always gets a decent interface, they'll become my business organization, merely for now, Pages is the best step upwardly from Google Docs for the user without special requirements.
